Hope Academy Vizag is a nonprofit K-10 school in rural west Visakhapatnam India that provides high-quality education to 120 ultra-poor children from all castes and religious backgrounds. We are making steady progress toward becoming an international-quality, financially self-sustaining nonprofit educational institution for 800 students that provides free education to the poorest 25 percent of its students.

To date all of Hope Academy’s students have come from either tribal (Adivasi) or slum areas from within a radius of 300 km of the City of Visakhapatnam. Common background themes include extremely low socioeconomic class, low caste (SC or ST) and very weak—or non-existent—family support systems.

We seek to provide each student—irrespective of caste or religious background—with a life-changing education that: (1) builds a foundation for them to achieve their highest potential and discover the joy and fruits of their God-given talents; (2) prepares them to enter and strengthen the job marketplace with robust English and Telugu language skills as well as strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills and (3) in one generation decisively breaks the cycle of extreme poverty for beneficiaries.

Since 2007, the founders have had direct experience in working with children from either tribal or slum areas from within a radius of 300 km of the City of Visakhapatnam. Hope Academy itself has been in operation since 2012. Hope Educational Society was registered in AP in 2013.

We ensure that our personnel are trained in child safety protocols and child abuse prevention, and that appropriate reporting/investigating procedures are in place. In 2018, the  children’s home in which Hope Academy currently operates received a positive review from a National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) audit. Only 54 of 2,874 children’s homes audited throughout India received such a positive review.

Approximately five percent of contributions go to administrative costs. Approximately six percent of contributions go to fundraising.
